Are YOU Team SAFE and SOUND?
Last year, around 7000 abandoned dogs were killed in the UK. Healthy dogs who died afraid and alone - unclaimed strays, tossed aside like unwanted toys. Britain's throw away society has gone mad.
But it doesn't have to be this way...
With YOUR help, we can stop stray dogs dying needlessly, and give them the chance to be a family pet once again.
Safe and Sound is a not-for profit, voluntary organisation which works alongside stray dog pounds across the UK, to find RESCUE SPACES for stray dogs (of all breeds) who are at serious risk of destruction. Many, though not all, of the dogs we save from death are bull breed types, like the misunderstood staffordshire bull terrier.
Our organisation is the link between many small, privately owned boarding kennels (tasked with managing their local authority’s stray dogs) and the established rehoming rescues. We work closely with pounds and rehoming rescues to offer death row dogs the a chance to be a family pet once again.
Our aims:
- To secure rescue placements with reputable, established rescue organisations for abandoned dogs at risk of destruction. Sometimes, we have just 7 days to find sanctuary for a death row dog.
- To coordinate and finance the safe transportation of dogs from council pounds to their rescue placements. We rely on a dedicated network of transport volunteers, to whom we must reimburse any fuel costs incurred.
- To arrange and finance veterinary care for pound dogs who are refused treatment by the kennels/council holding them.
- To fund neutering operations for our bullbreed poundies - we make donations of £75 per dog to those rescues able to take in our death row staffies.
- To fund ‘emergency boarding’ for those dogs at imminent risk of destruction - this typically costs us £7 per dog per day.

Wondering what you could do to help? Wish you could make a difference? You CAN!
By making a donation towards the care of an urgent dog of your choice, you can help us get our precious poundies to safety AND support those rescues offering sanctuary to these desperate dogs.
What will my donation be used for?
By donating to a particular dog's fund you can help:
- Transport your dog to safety by funding the cost of their travel;
- Buy extra time - throw a lifeline to a dog in need of emergency boarding;
- Secure a space for your dog, by giving the gift of vaccinations, neutering or microchipping.
